What I learned:
Practice makes perfect. The original drawing was from a few months ago at the beginning of 2017. The proportions were off completely, especially the eye to nose ratio. To put it into perspective, the drawing was on a much smaller scale and the nose was just as big as it is on this whole-paged drawing. What I want to continue to learn: Usage of depth and contrast by using darker graphite shades. I’m afraid to go to dark, I’d like to go out of my comfort zone with the next graphite drawing.

Three things I learned about collages and printmaking:
1. Newspapers are an excellent canvas to compliment the purpose of your drawing via text explanation 2. Go over your collage in modge podge (gelatin substance thing) before drawing over it. 3. Sharpie and a black ballpoint pen go well with newspaper prints and provides a different look. Painting: I learned that acrylic paint is easily blendable, resulting in a wide range of colors possible. On the negative side, paint is extremely hard to control, and acrylic dries so fast it's hard to correct mistakes unless you want to paint over it completely. Something I would like to improve on is my control over the paint and how it blends to create shadows, highlight, and dimension. Drawing:
I learned that it’s better to do a graphite sketch over the base coat of paint, as it will not show through. I also learned that graphite will smear when painting over with a brush. Something I would like to improve on is planning out my sketch clearly so I know exactly what I’m doing and I’ll make less mistakes. |
